Artificial Intelligence in Recruiting -Tips for Preparing a Resume for AI and Humans -
Artificial Intelligence in Recruiting -Tips for Preparing a Resume for AI and Humans -Have you ever put together a resume you felt was pretty impressive but never got a response from the potential employer? Or worse, you received an electronic rejection letter? Well it might just be that the response you received was from a machine rather than a person.Artificial intelligence (AI) has permeated every aspect of modern life and the recruiting and human resources industries are no exception. Today, AI is being employed in the recruiting process to hire more qualified candidates faster than ever before.According to a survey of nearly 800 talent acquisition professionals conducted by in aller welt organizational consulting firm Korn Ferry, almost half (48 percent) of recruiting professionals welcome AI as a tool. The survey also showed more than 60 percent of respondents said AI has changed the way recruiting is done in their organization and another 69 percent said using AI has been a ga me-changer when it comes to recruiting higher-quality candidates.AI in RecruitingArran Stewart, co-founder and chief visionary officer (CVO) of Job.com, said AI has been used for recruiting for more than 20 years and the technology just keeps getting betterthough its not what people think it is.People automatically think of some sci-fi robot when they think of AI, said Stewart. They imagine some movie scene with an all-knowing robot or computer. AI is when a computer ordnungsprinzip can perform a part of a humans role or job at a level that is satisfactory to a human. The first type of AI in recruiting began when people would read resumes from online, according to Stewart, who said databases then appeared.People began using Boolean string searches to find candidates online, which was the very first wave of querying databases for job searchers, said Stewart. If I am a recruiter looking for a C-plus person, I am going to do a Boolean string search. That computer has to look for that pe rson and that is a form of artificial intelligence. The computer has done that job and has given you a suitable result for a candidate to hire. That was the beginning. The Evolution of AIArtificial intelligence is developing at breakneck speeds in all industries including talent acquisition. Most of us know the applicant tracking systems (ATS) nearly all major companies use when searching for talent but we dont think of it as AI.Applicant tracking systems deliver a result, said Stewart. They are responsible for tracking an applicant. There is a quantitative and qualitative approach. Its a reporting mechanism rather than running a query. That requires the system to think.Another form of AI is internet bots, which is software that runs automated tasks over the internet such as processing applications, resumes, and cover letters. Modern AI has even been gifted with the ability to learn, according to Stewart.Stewart said todays AI is programmed to use the natural language process to lear n as it works so that it becomes better at its job with every applicant it processes. As the AI program processes resumes and applications, it understands the context of the words being used and the more words it knows, the more sophisticated the match is, according to Stewart, who calls that process machine learning (ML).People get feedback and grow and learn, said Stewart. Its the same principle with AI. It can get better if it learns and is told when its wrong.Your Resume AIWhen you are job searching and applying for jobs, AI looks for certain keywords and patterns, according to Stewart. When you write your resume, AI is programmed to search for specific key terms such as those posted in the job description. One of the best ways to get past AI and ensure your resume reaches a human is to include key terms and phrases from the job description in your previous roles, personal attributes, and skill sets.AI also identifies patterns in applications and resumes. For example, it will k ey in on dates to determine your staying power as a candidate. Thats why having months and years for start and stop dates in previous roles is imperative.Youre Being TrackedAs creepy as it sounds, AI is tracking you, but it can help in your job search. When you are job searching, you may feel you are being watched when ads or emails for job openings seem to follow you online. Its because AI is notating the pattern of positions you are applying for online and reacts to the pattern, sending other openings you may wish to apply for based on your previous job-search history.AI Isnt Going AnywhereStewart said the war for talent has never been as prominent as it is now. This stimulates job-hopping and movement as people chase their dream of promotions and money. Artificial intelligence has become more prominent because the staffing industry and recruiting are growing. In 2014, recruiting was a $460 billion industry and in 2017 that grew to $638 billion, said Stewart. The industry has grown by over $200 billion in only three years and it is still growing. You need technology to find a way to put people to work effectively. As Stewart points out, the economy is growing and there is a great deal of turnover. He said in companies such as Amazon and Google the average IT person is there just one year before moving on. With the vast options for salary capabilities, stock options, and other huge incentives to lure talent, 21st century businesses will continue to compete for talent and something has to give. Stewart said that give is technology.Making Your Resume Work with AISince AI uses the natural language process for learning, Stewart said one of the best ways to make your resume work with AI is to be as descriptive as possible. He said the machines are smart enough to see through slang, typos, synonyms, and institutions. For example, if you are applying for a job in the financial industry and you have worked for Bank of America, the machine knows that company is related t o that industry, said Stewart. It will recognize 70,000 companies in a variety of industries and, if you have one of those companies in your resume, it will rate your resume higher.Dates for Getting an InterviewYou will also need to be very articulate with your dates as they are scored in a resume. The system will read a resume and see January 2001 to June 2009. It will calculate the days spent with that employer and combine that with the keywords used, then weight it, according to Stewart.Another advantage is knowing that everything of more than five years is consistently classed as senior-level experience where AI is concerned. That means the more years you have spent in one role or with one employer helps on your resume.Content is Most RelevantIf you have strong content with relevant information, it will get passed to a human by AI, according to Stewart. He said you need to create a resume that is reflective of you.As long as your experience is relevant to what you have applied f or, trust me, you will be getting a call from that hirer, said Stewart. If you send in a rubbish resume, it will not get passed on.Switching Careers AIIf you are looking to switch careers, Stewart said this may be more difficult as AI has not yet been able to compensate for career changes. He said that sort of job seeking is where you need to network and get your foot in the door in a different way.If the technology cant do it, then good old-fashioned networking is the way, said Stewart.AI-Friendly Resume TipsHere are some professional tricks of the trade for making your resume work with AI Use key terms relevant to the position you are seeking. Find them in the job description. Use relevant experience for the job you want. Use accurate dates for previous employment. Use consistent language related to your skills and attributes. Avoid throwing all adjectives in at once by sticking with three significant skills or attributes. In your personal statement, highlight key skills and expe rience. If you have done everything, use what you are best at. Its better to be a specialist than a jack-of-all-trades.Are you tired of your resume being rejected by applicant tracking systems? I know how frustrating it is to submit your resume and receive no response. I hate seeing qualified people never breakthrough the screening process. It shouldnt be that way. Thats why I created this guide and I encourage you to download the FREE PDF so you can start seeing better resume response rates

Who Does What How My Fiancé And I Divvy Up Chores When Im Type A And Hes Type B
Who Does What How My Fianc And I Divvy Up Chores When Im Type A And Hes Type B For most of human history, the way we talk about household labor divisions has rotated largely around heteronormative gender roles. Thankfully, the idea that gender should determine the who does what of housework is (mostly) no longer the world we live in. But theres leise no rule book for helping partners figure out how to divvy up household chores the physical, mental, and emotional ones in a way thats fair and equitable. So, what does the division of household chores for vermodern couples look like, really? In FGBs Who Does What series, we asked readers to complete an exercise in order to share with us the amount and nature of housework they actually do, and how they and their partner decided to divvy it all up. --Name AdamLocation Brooklyn, NYRelationship status EngagedWhat type of home (e.g, condo, house) do you have? ApartmentDo you have any kids or pets? We have one cat, and its really her apartmen t.--How long have you and yur partner been together?Weve been dating two years next month and have been engaged for five months. How long have you been living together?Just over a year. What chores do you do daily, and how did you and your partner decide youd be the one to do them? Please describe.I am the Type A partner in our relationship, so Im mora concerned with keeping things tidy than my fiance is. When we first moved in, that led to a period of adjustment and gradually to compromise. Today, he helps keep things a little tidier than he would on his own, and I try my best bedrngnis to have an anxiety attack when dishes are left in the sink (lol). That said, I still take responsibility for a lot of the little daily tidying up. Its usually me taking out the trash and recycling in the morning, making sure countertops in the kitchen are cleared off and dishes are put away (thats a big thing for me visually). I go to work earlier than my fiance does, so Im usually the one feeding the cat in the morning, too. What chores do you do weekly and/or monthly, and how did you and your partner decide youd be the one to do them? Please describe.I manage any deliveries we have coming into the apartment (we have groceries delivered from Fresh Direct and have laundry picked up and dropped off, which is a life saver in New York). This can fluctuate, because sometimes itll be a few deliveries in one week and other times well go a couple weeks without any. (But no more than a couple weeks because Im not letting our stinky gym clothes sit around, lol). I take care of this because I welches already living in this apartment before he moved in with me, so I had these deliveries set up. It was just easier to continue. I also clean the kitchen like, a full-on scrub down once a week.As far as money matters go, Im the one paying rent and our utility bills because, again, I already had that set up before he moved in. Other financial things we still do separately we have our own bank a ccounts, credit cards, gym memberships, and things like that. But after we get married next year (its a long engagement), we will be reworking some of that stuff and will need to have some conversations around whos in charge of what. How about your partner? What chores do they do daily, and how did they and/or you decide theyd do them?My fiance is a chef professionally, and he definitely keeps his chefs hat on at home, too. I have gained 15 pounds since he moved in But hes amazing in the kitchen and I was eating mostly Seamless deliveries before him, lol, so Im not complaining. He also keeps our bar fully stocked with my favorite wine. Since Im the one who manages getting our laundry sent out and back, we also struck a deal that he has to put it away. He is mostly pretty consistent with that. What chores does your partner do weekly and/or monthly, and how did they and/or you decide theyd do them?He deep cleans the bathroom once a week (like I said, Ive taught him well, lol). He also s till has a car, and since I would be fine without one, I let him take care of any and all maintenance and upkeep around that. That said, I do definitely benefit from the car when its beach time during the summerIs the way you and your partner divide tasks similar to the household you grew up in? Why or why not?My parents divorced when I was young and my mom didnt remarry until super recently, so the model I saw growing up was definitely do it all yourself. Today I can be a little bit of a control freak sometimes, which might stem from that. Its been a process over the past year of figuring out how to delegate some things to my fiance and not insist on doing everything myself.Whats something you and your partner could improve on when divvying up and completing household tasks? Whats something you feel youre doing well?Again, Ive gotten better at vocalizing my needs to my fiance and delegating some tasks but there is probably still room for me to improve there. For what were doing wel l, we always make each other laugh, including about household stuff. He reminds me that at the end of the day, the world isnt going to end if theres a little clutter. So I think we balance each other out well.Lightning Round1. Who makes the bed?Hes usually still in it when I leave for work, lol, so this doesnt really get done.2. When you go out to eat, who picks the restaurant and/or makes the reservation? He does Hes the foodie.3. Who makes doctors appointments? Dentist appointments? We do our own.4. Who picks up the dry cleaning? We have it delivered (I take care of that).5. Who keeps track of friends and family members birthdays? We do this evenly.6. Who pays bills? (Or if you divvy this up, who pays which bills?)We do our own, except I take care of rent and utilities.7. When something in the house/apartment is broken, who makes sure it gets fixed?Mostly me.8. Who makes sure the tags on your cars are up-to-date?He does9. Who vacuums? We take turns.10. Who was the brde person to dust s omething?I cant remember. lol.11. Who was the brde person to clean your toilet? He was.12. Who buys groceries?I buy our basic stuff on Fresh Direct but hell pretty often pick up specialty ingredients and things like that. He goes to food markets in Chinatown a lot. And he buys the wine, which we both consider a key grocery, lol.13. Who brings in the mail?I do.14. Who irons?I do.15. Who was the last person to clean out the fridge/pantry of expired items?Me.16. Youve been invited to a wedding. Who RSVPs?It depends on whose friend or family it is.17. When planning a trip, who books the flights? The hotels?Usually me, but he always scouts out the best places to eat and makes those reservations.18. Who planned what you did last Friday night? He did, but we definitely take turns on this19. Who planned your last date night? He did.20. You need a gift for a friends housewarming party. Who buys it?It depends on whose friend or family it is.--Interested in participating in FGBs Who Does What ser ies? Email infofairygodboss.com with Who Does What in the subject line.

How Important Is Having a Really Good Resume
How Important Is Having a Really Good ResumeHow Important Is Having a Really Good ResumeIts alfruchtwein 2018. You dont need a resume anymore, right? Absolutely wrong. While a lot has changed in the world of job searching, a resume is more important than ever. With so many candidates competing for the same jobs, a strong resume is your ticket to standing out to a hiring manager. But what do hiring managers want to see on a resume? Here are some tips from our professional resume writers to help youProfessionalism. You can have the most experience in the world, but if your resume is poorly formatted with tons of typos, youre not going to get very far with a hiring manager. Thats why its important to follow standard writing and formatting guidelines (e.g. including lots of white space, a professional font type, bulleted lists and correct grammar) to put your best foot forward. The right experience. If your resume looks professional at first glance, then a hiring manager will keep reading. What are they looking to see? First and foremost, they want to know youre qualifiedfor the job. If they need someone with 10 years of management experience and youre clearly entry-level, youre not going to get an interview, no matter how well-written and perfectly formatted your resume is.A customized resume.Hiring managers also want to know what you can do for them. Thats why a cookie cutter resume you send out to every employer isnt going to be effective. Instead, customize your resume to every unique opportunity. Make sure youre addressing the specific companys needs using keywords from their job posting and describing how your experience is a fit for them.A proven track record.Ok, so you clearly have the right skills and experience to do the job. But what value can you really bring to the table? Thats another aspect a hiring manager will be looking for. And thats also why its so important to promote your accomplishments and results, rather than justlistingabout tasks and respo nsibilities. So wherever possible, quantify your achievements. For instance, instead of stating that you ordered office supplies in your role as office manager, focus on the fact that you Renegotiated and reduced ABC Companys office supply contract cost by 10%. These are the kinds of facts and figures hiring managers most want to see.Hiring managers screen resumes for 6-15seconds Thats all the time you have to impress them. But when you follow the tips above, youll have a much better chance of getting noticed and getting a call for an interview. If youd like more help with your resume, contact the resume experts at ResumeSpice. The best ways to respond to an insult, according to Steve Jobs
The best ways to respond to an insult, according to Steve JobsThe best ways to respond to an insult, according to Steve JobsWhile we wait for AI gatekeepers to be adept enough at detecting and sending trolls back to the murky waters of 4chan where they belong, digital trolls are a reality all people on the Internet must tolerate in the meantime. Some trolls cant be reasoned with. But for the ones that can, how should you respond to a freshly hurled insult?Steve Jobs, for one, seems to have nailed the art. In a recently recirculating 1997-era video of him speaking atApples Worldwide Developers Conference, Jobs is taking questions from the audience when he gets thisrather unsavory tidbitthrown at himIts sad and clear that on several counts youve discussed, you dont know what youre talking about. I would like, for example, for you to express in clear terms how, say, Java and any of its incarnations addresses the ideas embodied in OpenDoc. And when youre finished with that, perhaps you ca n tell us what you personally have been doing for the last seven years.Pretty rough, right? Jobs infamous response to this low blow-dealing troll, however, properly shut him down. And hiscommunication schabloneis one we can all pull from.Anticipate criticisms of your stanceAs someone who studiedPublic Relationsand now works in the industry,it seems pretty clear to me that the answer Jobs weaves into his response to the troll was preplanned. Before this conference, Jobs had been barraged with similar questions, so this was very much in the realm of what he should have expected. Simply put, its easier to respond to opposition when youve prepared for it.Dont react immediatelyAt the time of the comment from the troll, Jobs was already fidgeting with a water bottle. So when the insult was finished, he took a swig from his bottle, looked down, and paused to gather his thoughts to locate the proper answer. He didnt make any pronounced nonverbal or verbal responses, but instead looked thoug htful (though, mind you, the insult in this video harkens back to what feels like a bygone era of civil discourse).Give a broad opening line that feels favorable to the troll, but qualifiedThis was the first sentence of his prepared answerOne of the hardest things when youre trying to effect change is that people, like this gentlemen, are right, in some areas.See how it seems like hes agreeing with the troll, but qualifies it so in reality hes not. Its always a good idea to start with a more friendly response, even if you totally disagree with the other persons stance.Answer the question you want askedThe question Jobs got was about a specific programming language and his personal life. However inappropriate the latter was, Jobs did not specifically answer either, but instead ended up answering the more favorable, general question of Are their mistakes that were made when you decided to make a big change in the company, and who is the ultimate decision-maker in a tech company engine ers or customers? This is a pretty classic political maneuver, and still incredibly effective. The answer plays to the familiar old geschftlicher umgang adage thatthe customer is always right. And as we have tried to come up with a strategy and a vision for Apple, um, it started with what incredible benefits can we give to the customer? Where can we take the customer? Not, not starting with lets sit down with the engineers and figure out what awesome technology we have and then how are we going to market that. And I think thats the right path to take.Acknowledge the fallibility of you and your team - then support bothYou should be your own biggest cheerleader - humble brag, anyone? The wealthier you are, the more you can pay others to generate excitement about you to others (that is, after all, the essence of public relation campaigns), but in the beginning, its just you and your team.Admit mistakesthat were made, talk about the lessons that came from them, but then move on and discu ss why you and your team are hardworking and deserving of support and the benefit of the doubt.Im sorry that OpenDocs a casualty along the way. And I readily admit there are many things in life that I dont have the faintest idea what Im talking about, so I apologize for that, too. But theres a whole lot of people working super, super hard right now at Apple.Jobs finishes strong in his response by pointing out there are people working long shifts well past midnight to crank out the application programs they think fit with their companys values, and that hard work is deserving of support and praise. Its almost an intrinsic value to reward hard work and give serious teams the benefit of the doubt. Jobs plays on this innate understanding, winning over the audience.Well find the mistakes, and well fix them. And I think what we need to do is support that team going through this very important stage as they work their butts offThis post originally appeared on Fairygodboss, and was syndicat ed with permission.
